Dr. Van Lunen chose medicine because of its combination of intellectual and emotional challenges and satisfaction and it has provided him with opportunities for growth and learning throughout his entire career. His greatest satisfaction has come from the deepening relationship that he has developed with each of his patients over time. The core focus of his practice is helping each person to make the best medical choices for themselves and to deal with the challenges of life and illness. Although his practice spans the range of internal medicine, he has taken a special interest in arthritis medicine. In his free time Dr. Van Lunen is a passionate sailor and cross-country skier as well as an avid hiker and reader. He has been involved with the Brunswick Topsham Land Trust since 1995. He has also served on the town of Brunswick’s Open Space and Recreation Task Force. His first wife, Mary Ellen, died in 1994 of cancer. He has since been happily remarried to Margaret Wilson and has two stepsons.
