Specialty: Family Medicine The cornerstone of my approach to family practice is my belief that each of my relationships with patients is a partnership. My goal is for patients to understand that I can provide factual information, emotional support, conscientious effort, and honesty, and that they are ultimately responsible for their own health. The final choice about what actually happens is up to each patient. I try to guide them into making positive choices. I believe that there are biological, social, and psychological aspects to health care, all of which need to be integrated. I was drawn to the clinical side of medicine because of the opportunities to forge meaningful relationships with people in promoting and caring for their health. I learned that I could relate well to people, and found it both emotionally satisfying and rewarding. It is a privilege to be such an intimate part of patients' lives. At home, I live with my partner, Charles, who works for The Nature Conservancy, and our loving retriever, Sandy the Dog. Charles and I enjoy dancing, especially to Latin rhythms and swing, as well as sea kayaking, bird-watching, backpacking, and travel.
